Writer: Rebecca GilbuenaRebecca Gilbuena

Saint Paul school board member, founder of Love First, and longtime community organizer Chauntyll Allen announced today that she is running for Saint Paul City Council, Ward 4. The seat was vacated by Mitra Jalali, who resigned last month.

The seat will be filled through a special election that has yet to be scheduled. Molly Coleman, daughter of former Mayor Chris Coleman, Cole Hanson, and Cristen Incitti are also seeking to fill the Ward 4 position.

Chauntyll was born and raised in the Rondo neighborhood. After graduating from Central High School, she started working in the district's Community Education department, organizing after-school programs in the Rondo neighborhood. She has served on the school board for over five years and has done extensive work to end the school-to-prison pipeline while also advocating publicly for civil rights and social justice issues in the Twin Cities.

Chauntyll's priorities include lowering property taxes, community safety, and youth programs.

Ward 4 consists of Hamline-Midway, Como Park, St. Anthony Park, Union Park, and the Mac-Grove District Councils.
